It's a fairly generic, but well executed journey behind a character that becomes OP, but his enemies challenge him. They're capable, intelligent, willing to go through many lengths and they're all good bits if the journey.

The story is kept focused, no romance, minimal time for side plots or other characters. Just enough for key developments. 

Now the side story? I'll never read it, the author died shortly after completing the main story and the follow up should have never existed.
