Answer Me, My Prince
Please Answer Me, My Prince , 답장을 주세요, 왕자님
She wrote a letter there, at an antique storage box of books that I got by a mere chance, and a reply came back. From the handsome playboy Prince, Archie Albert , the pathetic supporting character in "The Princess and the Knight," Cordelia had a dream that she had a conversation with the main character in the novel. Prince Archie desperately needs the advice of Cordelia, who knows the future of his world. The letters they send and receive through the storage box of books continue without knowing that they are staying up late at summer nights... To Archie, Have you ever done that? I was walking with someone, and there was a flower blooming on the road. So you did it with that man? To the low-life Archie, You are really indecent, Prince. I am afraid that I am a woman' who thinks too much about sleeping with a man whom I met for the first time. Sleeping? I was talking about kissing. Oh, kiss? Please Answer Me, My Prince / ,
First, I find epistolaries positively dreadful. Gōd did not intend for letters to become books. Or comics, in any case. This is unnatural and I hate it. Worst literary trope ever. Maybe second worst after stream-of-consciousness (fùck Joyce).
Second, this is literally oozing classic literature nods and references from every chapter. I have a classical education, so I understand them, but this means I have the right to say that it's insufferable and also who the fück cares about Shakespeare anyway, dude was a catty bratty bottom and I hate him for it.
Of course, being a nerdy literature poser wannabe, the manga is intricately written. Forget about understanding what the fück they are babbling about without a near immaculate translation, that you NEED to find elsewhere. This is imperative. Not negotiable. The plot is quite complicated too: it develops on two interacting timelines. You'll go crazy without the official translation, especially when it resorts to The Messiest Trope Ever as a central plot point. You know the one. ⏱️
Having said that, it has good writing, a pretty in depth characterization, and good art.
Also the most fùcking insufferable gøddamn glacier-like pacing I've EVER witnessed. I've lost YEARS of my life reading it. It's UNBELIEVABLE. Part of it is its epistolary nature, and that's already a sin, but even not considering that IT'S FÛCCKEN SLOW. Incredibly SLOOOOOW. INCOMMENSURABLY dreadful. A midsummer nightmare. One of the worst examples of narrative rhythm in romance. This plot should've been condensed in 40 chapters, and that's being generous. But 85? EIGHTY-F I V E? No. Go fùck yourself. I'm revoking your right to exist, effecting immediately.
In short, I'm reccomending it ONLY IF you are a born and bred classical bïtch, with a thing for letters. (ew) Otherwise, if you are normal, it's a 6- on the Ivern Scale™️.
First. I'm crying and it's past midnight so if my review is not clear enough I'm always happy to respond to confused beloved readers.
Second, the art is beautiful.
It's great, perfect for this story, not too detailed which Is often for medieval stories and not too simple which is often for modern stories.
The artstyle shares a soft and simple brush that keeps just enough light and details to make it perfect in both worlds.
Third, the story is great. It's amazing.
I can't blame the author for having a very confused story.
The timeline is really hard to explain when it's all about time traveling and sharing places between worlds so I myself had to have some time to think before figuring out what was happening and to be honest, I couldn't for some moments.
The story itself tho is beautiful, it's great and It contains a happy ending which I would be mad and trowing stuff if it didn't. I find bad ending interesting but tbh this story deserves a happy ending and it needed one. The characters are really good and I really like how the two versions were pretty dumb at realizing stuff in their own sides (mostly ml but let shush about that lol), it can be annoying but tbh it's understandable. They can't just imagine how another is them when they speak with them and not their version in their own world. It sounds impossible and I must admit I would probably be the same lololol.
Reviews don't allow long comments so I shall cut it short.
Its a beautiful story and it has so much more to it but I cannot even say more because spoiling the fun and emotional moments would be sad for you.
Spoiler : I cried for Noel at the end. Tbh I hope a happy ending to all, no one deserves a bad ending... Apart Mark or whatever his name is-
it's gonna be confusing at first, but hopefully towards the end, you'll like it? I know I did
